Chapter 4: Personal belongings (4)
“Don’t worry I’ll answer the door. Who could it be so late at night” Haru offered to open the door instead of his Maid. He wasn’t sure who it could be, he expected a burglar because he never had a guest or whatsoever come to his house at eleven in the night.
He wondered how he/she sneaked in and why his security guards didn’t inform him, maybe whoever it is found a secret way into his domain. Luckily he learnt Martial arts back at his college, specifically when he was 19.
He opened and was about to strike but he quickly withdrew his attack as soon as he saw that face of the woman he was in love with.
“Meilin?!” He pulled her near him and wrapped his arms gradually around her body “What’s up?”
“He took everything, each and every thing. I worked day and night just to lose everything” She burst into tears.
“Your husband…”
She nodded and put her head on his chest as she kept on crying ” I hate him. I shouldn’t have married him, if just I met someone like you” she secured her mouth promptly and made a stride back.
“I’m sorry, that came out wrong…”
He lifted her head up then kissed her. She was into the kiss at first but she realized what she was doing was far from being right. She was a married woman and she doesn’t know her boss’s relationship status.
“We can’t. We just can’t Haru” She turned for the door ” I shouldn’t have come. I’m so sorry” She ran out. He had little or no motivation to chase after her He sighed then close the door.
“Stupid haru, why didn’t you control yourself huh? why?! What would she think of you now? As someone that predates on a sad woman?” He banged his head on the wall in anger and disappointment “You have to make things Right!”
The following morning, Haru chose to be severe about his conduct around her and limited everything down to business and just business undertakings.
He loved her, but as a woman that’s married, It was wrong but he couldn’t help It. He couldn’t stop thinking about her, he couldn’t act right, do things right without having imaginations about her.
He wanted her badly but he didn’t want to show it. He doubted she had any feelings whatsoever for him, he knew he might not be good enough.
“Morning Mrs Luan, your task has been posted on your wall. You can look through It” Before she could respond, he left without looking at her. She questioned his new behavior but had to start her work as soon as possible.
She realized he was maintaining a strategic distance from her and she didn’t care for it. The passionate strife of their separation was influencing the two but they were too proud to show it. That kiss wasn’t intended to occur in any case.
Even after work, they acted like total strangers. It continued for an entire month, the more the days passed by, the more they became separated.
Haru thought it was all child’s play from the beginning, he presumed that he’d proceed onward and She’ll concentrate on her marriage. A marriage he wasn’t on the side of.
“Sir” After weeks of being away from Haru, Meilin finally decided to call him but formally. She wanted to take a leave because she wasn’t feeling so well.
“Hello?” A woman was there instead and they were both surprise by the unexpected occurrence.
“How may I help you” The woman went further to ask “Looking for baby haru?”
Baby haru? Who’s that woman? And how is a twenty eight year old man a baby?
“Sorry,” She laughed “I’m too used to calling him that. We did grow up together, I’m Ai Jin, his ex girlfriend”
“Oh nice to meet you” She bowed “Where did he go?”
The door opened and Haru walked in. He didn’t expect Meilin to be there but he was sure whatever reason she came was for work purpose only.
“How may I help you Mrs Laun…”
“I’m…”
“When are we gonna go have dinner Bun Bun” Ai jin cut in and Meilin had to stop talking.
“I know I promised you and you won’t leave me alone until I take you. We’ll leave soon, just go get your bags.”
Bags? was she moving in with him?
Meilin tried to understand their relationship. She also wondered why she cared.
He picked up his coat as he got up “You wanted to say something?”
“Yes yes” she cleared her throat “I’m not feeling too good. I’ll be absent for two days”
He nodded “Noted” He walked forward and stopped when he was beside her “You’re supposed to be in her place. All the things I would’ve done for you” He whispered before leaving.
His words made her heart shake and he couldn’t stop thinking about it too.
Three hours later. He was exhausted from all the parties Ai jin recommended. His body was hurt from the alcohol and dirty dancing. He went a little wild that night but he needed to sober up while he still can.
He laid on his sofa and heard a knock on the door again. His meditation was interrupted and he was angered by the disturbance. He went ahead to open the large door.
“Meilin?” Again? she came again?
“I’m sorry. I miss you…I really do”
He knitted his brows as he tried to put her in place and the stench of liquor and cigarettes was overflowing from her garments. She was an absolute mess.
“Meilin did you go to a bar? Where have you been?” Typical Haru poses inquiries before acting. He was really worried about her mental health, he knew nothing was fine with her private life.
“I love you haru. I love you” he shook his head and concluded the alcohol was having a huge effect on her.
He was unexpectedly kissed by her and he was stunned for minutes as his head was filled with questions on what he should do next.
“Haru?” Ai jin slowly walked down the stairs to check up on him.
Meilin quickly pulled away as her eyes met with Ai jin. She was wearing His shirt. The same vintage shirt he wore to work that day.
Was that the only thing she had on? Does that mean that they…
“I didn’t know…I’m so so sorry” She pivoted to leave however he halted her “It’s not what you think and I can’t let you leave in this state.”
Meilin didn’t utter a word for some time when she at last fainted.
